Mentoring General Manager
Role - Karen Nelson, Supervisor
Mentored, or supervised, the General Manager to develop management strategies and skills in a safe and effective environment.
The Youth Hub Services
'Karen initially worked with my staff, the Board of Trustees, and me to develop a clear strategic vision for the organisation. Karen was able to easily work with what were often disparate views and personalities, pull all the ideas and comments together into a one-page document that covered vision, purpose and client base, whilst also providing 4-5 key objectives to work towards. I have huge admiration for Karen’s ability to create what was very much a working document that could be easily referred to in funding applications, in making decisions about future development, in discussions with staff and in BOT meetings.
In addition, Karen provided me with external management supervision to assist me in focusing my thinking and working through staffing issues. In a position that was relatively isolated at times, I found it essential to have someone who could provide me with support and advice in dealing with a range of management challenges. In
addition, this support and advice enabled me to continue my own professional growth and development.
Throughout the two years that I worked with Karen, I found her to be extremely effective at helping me to identify my natural skills as a manager and to provide me with a range of strategies to manage an extremely challenging team. I look forward to having the opportunity to work with her again!' THE YOUTH HUB SERVICES Gillian Murdoch, General Manager - 2011
